5:15AM

I literally live across the street from a gym. It is 15 feet from my front door. Also, I have a membership to this gym. There is no conceivable excuse for me not to be using said gym.

But I don’t. I never do. Well, not that's not quite true. I use it once, and am very proud of myself, about once every two months.

So last week, I got serious. I started waking up early and going before work. (you’ll notice I didn’t write this blog until after the fact, just in case it didn’t actually happen – I’m not stupid). 5:15 is really early. It is very, very early. And there are a lot of crazy people at the gym - crazy people.

While on the elliptical, I wrote this haiku:
My eyes burn.
I hate this so much.
Die die die.

So, I feel it has been a smashing success. (someone waive some pom poms here)

Nice work. I think it's impossible to go to the gym unless you have someone to go with. For some reason two people who would never go by themselves can guilt one another into going. Also, if you're spending all your time on the elliptical that could be the problem. I would never ever ever go to use an elliptical but I like lifting pretty well. You should try that and maybe your haiku could be more positive. Something like:

My biceps burn
I hate this so much
But I will be buff

Yep, 5:15 is a time of day that NO-ONE should ever see. But why were you there that early on a Saturday?

I think that is the best hiaku I've ever heard. Seriously.

But Jake's right, lifting is where it's at. Not that I have a gym to lift at.

I'm still easing into the lifting. So that my arms don't rebel and leave me. They get nervous when they think of being sore. I'll break them. Just give me time.

And I really wasn't up on Saturday... until 8, to post when I'd written the day before.

No pain no gain. I agree with J, you need a companion, at least at first when you are trying to establish the habit. I do love running though since it requires no equipment except my own body. If only my body wasn't so crappy.
