Merry Christmas

This whole life of a lawyer is suspiciously like preparing all the cases, returning all the phone calls, writing all the motions, and then managing the office... And then having Tod call me up and ask me to look up random trivia on the internet for him because he is driving and is bored. Yesterday, I had to find and purchase a Wii for Tod's daughter for Christmas. So, that law degree came in very handy. On the other hand, I just wrote a motion that got all evidence in a drug case suppressed and the state had to drop the case entirely. So, here's to truth, justice, and my mad skills.

I just orchestrated the painting and carpetting of the office - or at least, I hope so. We'll see if there is actually new carpet on Monday. It turns out that middle-aged male lawyers can be a really whiny demographic when it comes to boxing up all their stuff. I spent most of the week explaining again exactly what needs to be boxed up. And then telling them over and over. "Yes, yes, you have to box that up. Yes, Steve - you MUST box it up. All of it. No - no Steve, I don't care how much stuff you have. Is it my fault you have crap all over the office? Don't give me that attitude. Oh no you didn't..." This is the part where I wish I'd jumped over the junk pile they formed in front of my desk and smacked Steve. Maybe next week.

Tod and I are scheduled to try about 1 murder jury trial a week (they usually take 3-4 days), starting in January and going through February. So at the end of that, I'll either have killed myself or have learned to love doing trials. I don't see any middle ground. I'll be spending the rest of December putting all these cases together - but really enjoy that part, so it should be good.

Although, I was noticing that I might have taken a vow of poverty somewhere along the line. Whoopsadaisy. I'll never be able to afford that Senate seat now.
So instead of printing up and mailing out the Christmas cards I painted for this year...

So go ahead and pretend this came in the mail.

Merry Christmas from Chicago.
